Baremetrics alternatives for Stripe-billed SaaS

By Jon Hainstock, founder of Bright Vault · Published · Competitor details checked on October 19, 2026

Baremetrics is a solid subscription analytics tool. If it does what you need at a price that works, you may not need to switch. People usually start looking for one of three reasons: the price at their ARR band, a feature that sits on a higher plan, or reports that don't answer a question someone is asking them, often an investor or a buyer.

We make Bright Vault, so we're not neutral. Below are the options we'd actually weigh, including the ones that aren't us, with what each is good for and where it falls short. Facts about other products come from their own websites, checked on October 19, 2026. Prices and features change, so check before you decide.

What Baremetrics offers today

  • Three plans priced by ARR band: Launch ($0–360K ARR), Growth ($360K–3.6M) and Scale ($3.6M and up). The plan cards show starting prices of $75, $255 and $1,152 a month. The FAQ on the same page quotes $49, $189 and $749, and the page advertises up to 35% off for annual billing, which likely explains the gap.
  • Integrations by plan: one on Launch, two on Growth, unlimited on Scale. Sources include Stripe, Braintree, Chargebee, Recurly, the Apple App Store, Google Play, Shopify, QuickBooks Online and Xero.
  • Features that start on Growth: custom dashboards, unlimited segmentation, benchmarks and advanced exports. Scenario planning and the analytics API are on Scale.
  • Paid add-ons: payment recovery and cancellation insights, each listed at $129 a month.
  • To try it: a free trial (the page doesn't state its length) and an interactive demo.

What to compare

  • Billing sources. If any revenue is billed outside Stripe, you need a tool that connects to those systems too.
  • The price at your ARR, not the starting price. Most tools in this category charge more as you grow.
  • Answers split by plan. Retention, cohorts and growth per plan, without building segments by hand. See how a buyer reads NRR and SaaS cohort analysis.
  • Exports someone else can check. A per-customer MRR schedule and an ARR bridge that tie to each other, and customer concentration over time.
  • Extras you'd otherwise buy separately, such as failed-payment recovery, cancellation surveys or forecasting.

The alternatives

ChartMogul

Good for: teams that want an established subscription analytics tool with a free entry point and broad billing coverage. As of October 19, 2026, its pricing page lists a free plan up to $120K ARR, Starter and Pro plans priced by the ARR you track, and Enterprise from $19,900 a year. Its integrations page lists about thirty billing sources, and it says every plan includes segmentation by plan, country or cohort, CSV exports, an API and MCP access.

Limits to weigh: above the free plan, the price rises with your ARR, as with Baremetrics. It's a general growth dashboard rather than something organized around a particular question, such as a sale. For more, see our ChartMogul alternatives page.

Stripe's own Billing analytics

Good for: Stripe Billing users who want to start in the Dashboard they already use. Stripe's documentation lists MRR and MRR growth by movement type, subscribers, ARPU, LTV, trial conversion, churn, and retention by cohort for subscribers and revenue. It also describes benchmarking against similar businesses on Stripe, and prebuilt CSV reports such as MRR per subscriber per month.

Limits to weigh: filtering and grouping by product or price work for only some metrics, and not if you bill in more than one currency. You can change how Stripe defines MRR, churn and active subscribers, so anyone comparing your numbers with another tool needs to know your settings.

A spreadsheet, or a fractional CFO's model

Good for: full control, at no software cost, in a format anyone can open.

Limits to weigh: someone has to export the data, normalize annual plans to monthly MRR, classify every customer's change each month, and keep it current. Hand-built models are also hard for someone else to reproduce.

Bright Vault

Good for: Stripe-billed SaaS founders who want subscription analytics at no cost, organized around the questions an investor or buyer asks. It's free while in early access. Bright Vault reads your Stripe history and reports:

  • MRR and ARR, movements, churn, ARPA and LTV
  • Net and gross revenue retention, and retention by plan
  • Plan performance and plan-group comparisons
  • Signup cohorts, including by first plan
  • Customer concentration over time

Every report can be filtered by plan, and the metrics follow ChartMogul's methodology. You can export an ARR bridge and a per-customer MRR schedule as CSV. An optional, read-only connector lets an AI assistant read your metrics, with customers shown as pseudonyms.

Limits to weigh:

  • Stripe is the only billing source. If you also bill through the App Store, Google Play, Shopify, Chargebee or Recurly, Bright Vault won't see that revenue.
  • No add-on tools. There's no failed-payment recovery, cancellation insights, industry benchmarks or forecasting.
  • Reports are private to your team. There are no share links. Data leaves as CSV.
  • It's early. It's free while in early access, and pricing after that hasn't been announced.

If you're preparing to sell within a year, there's also a separate, paid consultation: the 12-month exit readiness program. You don't need it to use the software.

Switching from Baremetrics

There's no data to move by hand. ChartMogul and Bright Vault each rebuild your history from your billing system when you connect it, and Stripe's analytics are already in your Dashboard, so you can run one alongside Baremetrics for a month or two before you cancel anything.

Expect the numbers to differ. Each tool has its own rules for MRR, churn and reactivation, and settings such as reporting timezone, trials and past-due subscriptions change the result. Compare a few months customer by customer, using each tool's per-customer export, before you rely on the new figures.

FAQ

How much does Baremetrics cost?

As of October 19, 2026, Baremetrics prices its plans by ARR band. The plan cards list Launch from $75 a month (up to $360K ARR), Growth from $255 (up to $3.6M) and Scale from $1,152 ($3.6M and up). The FAQ on the same page quotes $49, $189 and $749, and annual billing is advertised at up to 35% off. Payment recovery and cancellation insights are $129 a month each. Check its pricing page for your ARR.

Is there a free alternative to Baremetrics?

Yes, a few. ChartMogul has a free plan up to $120K ARR. Stripe Billing users have Billing analytics in the Dashboard. Bright Vault is free while in early access for any Stripe-billed business, with no ARR limit.

Will my numbers match Baremetrics?

Not exactly. Definitions and settings differ between tools, especially for churn timing, trials, discounts and past-due subscriptions. Small differences are normal; large ones usually trace to a few customers or one setting.

Does Bright Vault work with billing systems other than Stripe?

No. Stripe is the only subscription data source. If you bill through several systems, Baremetrics or ChartMogul will fit better.
