ChartMogul alternatives for founders preparing to sell
By Jon Hainstock, founder of Bright Vault · Published · Competitor details checked on October 19, 2026
If you're happy with ChartMogul and have no sale in view, you probably don't need an alternative. It's a mature subscription analytics tool with many billing integrations and a free plan. This page is for a narrower case: you bill through Stripe, you may sell the business in the next year or two, and you want to know whether your current dashboard answers the questions a buyer's analyst will ask.
We make Bright Vault, so we're not neutral. Below are the options we'd actually weigh, including the ones that aren't us, with what each is good for and where it falls short. Facts about other products come from their own websites, checked on October 19, 2026. Prices and features change, so check before you decide.
What changes when a sale is coming
Day-to-day dashboards are built to answer "are we growing?" A buyer asks narrower questions, and asks for the numbers behind them:
- Retention by plan, not just for the whole business. See how a buyer reads NRR.
- Cohorts, including whether newer customers retain like older ones. See SaaS cohort analysis.
- How much MRR depends on your largest customers, and whether that share is rising. See customer concentration.
- An ARR bridge and a per-customer MRR schedule that tie to each other. See the ARR bridge guide.
Any of the tools below can help with some of this. The question is how much you'll have to assemble yourself.
The alternatives
Baremetrics
Good for: a subscription analytics dashboard for teams on more than one billing system. Its pricing page lists Stripe, Braintree, Chargebee, Recurly, the Apple App Store, Google Play and Shopify, plus QuickBooks Online and Xero. It also sells add-ons for failed-payment recovery and cancellation insights.
Limits to weigh: plans are priced by ARR band (Launch, Growth and Scale), and some features, such as unlimited segmentation, benchmarks and advanced exports, start on the Growth plan. Like ChartMogul, it's a general growth dashboard, not something organized around a sale. For more, see our Baremetrics alternatives page.

Stripe's own Billing analytics
Good for: founders who want to start with what they already have. Stripe's documentation describes MRR and MRR growth broken into new, expansion, contraction, churn, reactivation and FX. It also covers subscriber counts, churn rate, ARPU, LTV and retention by cohort, for both subscribers and revenue. Some charts can be filtered or grouped by product or price. Stripe also offers prebuilt CSV reports, including MRR per subscriber per month and a log of every customer MRR change.
Limits to weigh: Stripe notes that filtering and grouping cover only a subset of metrics, and aren't available if you bill in more than one currency. Its definitions are Stripe's own, and you can configure how MRR, churn and active subscribers are calculated. That means a buyer comparing your numbers with another tool may need to know which settings you used.

A spreadsheet, or a model built by a fractional CFO
Good for: full flexibility, and a format every buyer can open. An experienced finance person can build exactly the tables a particular buyer asks for.
Limits to weigh: it's manual. Exporting invoices, normalizing annual plans, classifying every customer's monthly change and keeping it current all take time. A model rebuilt by hand each quarter is also hard to reproduce, and reproducibility is what a buyer's analyst will test.
Bright Vault
Good for: Stripe-billed SaaS founders preparing for a sale who want the buyer's questions answered from their own billing history, plus an advisor to go through them. Bright Vault reads your Stripe history and reports:
- MRR and ARR, movements, churn, ARPA and LTV
- Net and gross revenue retention, and retention by plan
- Plan performance and plan-group comparisons
- Signup cohorts, including by first plan
- Customer concentration over time
Every report can be filtered by plan, and the metrics follow ChartMogul's methodology. You can export an ARR bridge and a per-customer MRR schedule as CSV. The software is free while in early access. Separately, the 12-month program is a paid consultation for founders going to market within a year: founding cohort $1,500, or three installments of $550.
Limits to weigh:
- Stripe is the only billing source. If you also bill through the App Store, Paddle, Chargebee or invoices outside Stripe, Bright Vault won't see that revenue. ChartMogul and Baremetrics both connect to more systems.
- It isn't a general growth dashboard. If there's no sale in view, ChartMogul or Baremetrics is likely the better fit.
- Reports are private to your team. There are no buyer rooms or share links. Diligence material leaves as CSV.
- The advisor program is by application and runs for a year. The software itself you can start on your own.
ChartMogul vs Baremetrics, briefly
Both are established subscription analytics tools with multi-source billing integrations. As of October 19, 2026:
- ChartMogul lists a free plan up to $120K ARR, paid Starter and Pro plans, and Enterprise from $19,900 a year. Its integrations page lists about thirty billing sources, including Stripe, Chargebee, Recurly, Paddle, Braintree and the App Store. It says every plan includes segmentation by plan, country or cohort, CSV exports, an API and MCP access.
- Baremetrics lists three paid plans priced by ARR band, a free trial and a public demo, with unlimited segmentation and benchmarks on its middle (Growth) plan and above.
For most teams the deciding factors are which billing systems you use and which plan your ARR puts you on. Check both pricing pages with your own numbers.

Keeping ChartMogul and adding Bright Vault
This is a real option. Bright Vault reads the same Stripe data and uses ChartMogul's vocabulary for customers, plans, MRR movements and NRR/GRR. Your team can keep its usual dashboard while you prepare the views and exports a buyer will ask for.
Will my numbers match ChartMogul's?
Not exactly. Bright Vault's metrics follow ChartMogul's methodology, but they have been compared with ChartMogul on one calibration account only, and known differences remain, such as how past-due churn timing and partial payments are handled. Results also depend on your settings in each tool, such as the reporting timezone. If a buyer uses ChartMogul and your figures differ, the per-customer MRR schedule lets you trace the difference customer by customer.

No. Stripe is the only subscription data source.
